Featured in Channel 13 News, Prof. Boaz Ganor, President of Reichman University and Founder of International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT), and Dr. Michael Barak, Head of the Palestinian Terrorism Organizations Desk and Senior Researcher at the ICT, shared their insights on the dramatic shifts in the Middle East following the fall of the Assad regime and the weakening of Iran’s regional influence.
💡 Key insights from the report:
• Prof. Boaz Ganor: “If we take a snapshot of the current situation, the answer is yes (Iran has lost regional influence at this point in time). But this is just the first act. The Middle East is changing before our eyes; it is at a crossroads. I cannot say today where the Middle East will go from here… It is less interesting what they (the Houthis and other Iranian proxies) want; it is more interesting what the Iranians want. The Iranians want to send a message (that they are still in the picture and the threat from them is not over); the fire has not been extinguished.”
• Dr. Michael Barak: “Hamas’ image has been severely damaged in Gaza. It is not only the Salafi factions criticizing Hamas but also ordinary Palestinian citizens. The fact that Hamas has lost governance in Gaza and that many of its military capabilities have been harmed is excellent for us (Israel). The concern, however, is that Hamas will transition—or has already transitioned—from local activities to global operations targeting Jewish and Israeli interests.”
The report delves into critical questions:
🔹 What does the weakening of Iran mean for Israel’s security landscape?
🔹 How do changes in Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq impact the region?
🔹 How can Israel capitalize on these shifts to strengthen its strategic position?
