Col. (Ret.) Eran Duvdevani

Research Fellow, International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT), Reichman University; Colonel (Res.), IDF; Security and Counter-Terrorism Consultant; Expert in Low Intensity Conflict and Operational Planning

Colonel (Res.) Eran Duvdevani is a Research Fellow at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT) at Reichman University and an IDF retired Colonel, still on active reserve service. Since 2001, he has worked as a freelance consultant specializing in security, counter-terrorism, and instructing in the officers’ course of the IDF, as well as working with the Operations Branch (J5) at the General Headquarters (GHQ) of the IDF.

During his military career, Colonel Duvdevani served in the Paratroopers Brigade of the IDF and in the J3 branch of the IDF’s HQ (Operations), focusing on operational responses to terrorism at both the strategic and tactical levels. He wrote the IDF’s official book on the theory of Low Intensity Conflict (LIC) in the strategic and operational echelons. This work has been the basis of lectures he has delivered on behalf of ICT at the NATO College for High Studies in Estonia in recent years.

Colonel Duvdevani was a member of the team that analyzed and assessed the terror threats to the 2004 Olympics in Athens. He contributed to preparing the training proposals for the security forces protecting the event, ranging from small unit operations to systemic security planning. As part of this project, alongside two other research fellows, he conducted a research study on the phenomenon of suicide bombings.

His areas of specialization include operational countermeasures, counter-terrorism, special operations, Low Intensity Conflicts, suicide bombings, hostage-taking incidents, and operational planning. He is a sought-after lecturer at international conferences, speaking on topics such as suicide bombings, Low Intensity Conflicts, hostage-taking incidents, and broader counter-terrorism operational issues.

Colonel Duvdevani holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (1984–1988). In addition to his academic studies, he completed a series of professional and military training courses, including the IDF Commanding and Staff Course (1989), the Metallic Materials Course at the Mechanical Engineers Chamber (1990), the IDF Project Management Course at the Branch of Technology & Logistics (1991), and the IDF Battalion Commanders’ Course (1991). He also completed specialized courses in counter-terrorism combat at the IDF Counter-Terrorism School (1996), an Aviation Safety Investigation Course through the Ministry of Transportation (2003), and an Aviation Management Course at the Israeli Management Center (2009).
