Ms. Ayesha Hashem joined Meta in 2018, initially working on global content policy issues before transitioning to the APAC Public Policy team where she currently leads the policy portfolios for Afghanistan and Nepal. Ms. Hashem led Meta’s response to the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021 and is currently leading on connectivity, regulatory, and trust and safety issues in the region.
Prior to joining Meta, Ms. Hashem worked in policy roles in various government institutions in Afghanistan, the UAE and international development organizations such as the Asian Development Bank.
Ms. Hashem grew up as a refugee in Pakistan and eventually returned to Afghanistan after 2001. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the American University in Dubai and a Master’s in Development Management from the London School of Economics.
