The Jihadi online forums and the Arab media reported at the end of January 2009, that Saeed Ali Al-Shehri, aged 35, leader of the “Al-Qaeda in Saudi Arabia” organization (the “Qaidat Bilad Al-Haramein”), former prisoner no. 372 in Guantanamo, is now the deputy leader of “Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula”.

The “Sada Al-Jihad” (the Echo of Jihad) magazine, published every month on behalf of the Global Islamic Media Front (GIMF), dedicated a significant portion of its 31st issue to the terrorist attack carried out in Mumbai, November 26th-29th 2008.

On November 14th 2008 a news item was posted on the Al-Hesbah online forum entitled: “15 thousand Swedes have converted to Islam since the publication of the offensive caricatures” . According to the report, 15,000 Swedish citizens between the ages of 20-40, converted to Islam after the publication of the caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in September 2005 .

On November 3rd the Al-Hesbah online forum, serving as a conduit for messages for Al-Qaeda and other Jihad organizations, posted links to two movie clips on the “YouTube” website . One link is directed to a report which was broadcast by the German television channel RTL, about the phenomena of conversion to Islam in the German society, saying that 4,000 Germans converted to Islam in the past year . The second link leads to a publication of a German-Islamic group called “As-Sunna Verlag” , dealing with the strengthening of Islam in Germany, called “Our path to Islam” .

On January 14th 2009 the Jihadi online forums published a new audio tape by Al-Qaeda’s leader, Osama bin Laden, entitled “A call for Jihad to stop the aggression against Gaza”. The tape was produced by the “As-Sahab” institute, considered to be one of the main media centers producing messages distributed by Al-Qaeda on the internet.

On January 6th, the leading Jihadi online forums published a video tape made by Al-Qaeda's No. 2 leader, Ayman Al-Zawahiri, calling on Muslims around the world to attack Israeli and western targets around the world, following the events in Gaza. In the tape, Al-Zawahiri claimed that the Israeli activity in Gaza is part of the western crusade against Islam, and claimed that the elected U.S. president, Barak Obama, is Israel’s accomplice.

Against the backdrop of the events in Gaza, one of the surfers in the Al-Faloja forum, who identifies himself as an Iraqi writer, published a call to surfers on 29 December 2008, to gather information on Israeli and American embassies worldwide, including their telephone numbers and locations, particularly in Arab countries, Central Asia and Europe .

Many Islamic sites with forums, which identify with the Global Jihad, reported on 28 December 2008 that Awad Al-Qarni, a senior Saudi Arabian Islamic cleric, published a fatwa calling for attacks on Israeli interests worldwide “in response to the slaughtering which the Occupation is perpetrating in the Gaza Strip”.

On November 3, 2008, a member of the Al-Qaeda affiliated “Al-Hesbah” online forum, named Ansar, posted a message written in Arabic and French by Mu‘iz Al-Din Al-Qayrawani, a fighter in Afghanistan. In the message, Ansar requested that visitors to the forum distribute Al-Qayrawani's message and send a copy of it to the Swiss press.

The “Sada Al-Malahem” magazine (the Echo of Battles), published once every two months in behalf of the “Qaidat Al-Jihad Organization in the South of the Arabian Peninsula”, published in its November 2008 issue (issue no. 6) a great deal of information about the terrorist attack on the U.S. embassy in Yemen, carried out on September 17th 2008.
